Boston native turned NYC turntable goddess, Lindsay Luv, definitely rocks the music scene with her 80’s-esque revival beats and eclectic mix of electro/house, rock, old school hip-hop and electro mash-ups.
What can be said of the doting spinner? With Red Bull Vodka in hand and a patent leather designer DJ bag, the humorous Luv is sure to charm you with her effervescent wit; with a slight dash of Courtney Love plus or minus the psychotic parts… all jokes aside, when it comes down to it, Luv does know what she is doing.
The reigning princess of the DJ booth calls some of New York’s hottest locals home, burning up the dance floor to raging crowds of debaucherous party bodies. Ella Mondays, Greenhouse Wednesdays, and Tribeca Grand Saturdays are among some of the places she tears up the vinyl as well as national and international gigs. Although interested in the nightlife industry, the sassy Ms. Luv wasn’t always dishing the beats a la NYC after hours.
Lindsay arrived as an unknown to New York in 2002 as a hopeful sketch comedy writer, and had her first internship in the PR department for Comedy Central’s Reno 911 and The Chapelle Show. Soon after, Lindsay found herself working at The Orchard, the world’s largest independent music distributor; building her network brick by brick… or should we say beat by beat.
There she met and befriended music guru and Blondie producer Richard Gottehrer, who became her mentor and the reason she then decided to pursue a career in the music industry. The man behind the music, Richard, is responsible for producing hit tracks such as, “My Boyfriends Back” and “I Want Candy.” Throughout her long stint with The Orchard, Lindsay assisted Richard on development of up-and-coming Columbia Artist, The Raveonettes. Phew! I guess we can all thank Rich for pushing who is now one of the most sought after DJs in New York City.
Before taking on DJing as a full time job, Lindsay did talent bookings for house music DJ’s, eventually taking a full time job with a lifestyle marketing agency. There she produced high profile music oriented events for Fortune 100 brands. For three years she put together buzz worthy, branded events in NY and nationally at music conferences- booking world renowned artists in some of their first NY stints including Justice, Chromeo, Crystal Castles and Mickey Avalon.
Throughout her career, the talented Lady Luv spun vinyl with the likes of D.I.M., Figo, Toxic Avenger, Nick Catchdubs, Roxy Cottontail, Josh Madden, Izzy Gold, Sune Rose Wagner (Raveonettes), Michael T., Craig Pfunder (VHS or Beta), Ultragrrrl, and more. As if she needs to drop names to add to her hype… it looks like Lindsay has undeniably come a long way from her New England roots, making a name for herself on the club circuit.
Causing a scene everywhere, she goes about setting the world on fire; this celebutante with the big talent has seamlessly found her niche and continues to expand her brand. So put up the velvet ropes and get in line. Look out New York; it looks like Lindsay Luv is here to stay! (Except when she’s touring the world.)
